Free The Nipple Campaign & Social Media Censorships.

                 FREE THE NIPPLE CAMPAIGN.

Free the Nipple is a top freedom campaign created in 2012 during the pre-production of a 2014 film of the same name. The campaign highlights the general standard of allowing men to appear topless in public and mainstream media/ social media.  While considering it overtly sexual and  indecent for women to do the same, and uses the space to highlights double standards and inequality towards women.  The campaign argues that it should be legally and culturally acceptable for women to bare their nipples in public as well as being able to not censored or pixelate a woman's nipple on social media platforms.

Each and every social media platforms have their own guideline and policy in regards to nudity and revealing nipples. Facebook only allows photos of nipples to be posted when it is involved in breastfeeding and there is a direct mouth-nipple contact.

Instagram's guideline for nudity states:

"We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don't allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks. It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too."

Pinterest allows artistic and non-sexualised female nudity . This is so that artists have the freedom to post their photos and art on Pinterest without altering their original purpose and allowing the viewer to see the post as intended by the creator. They also allow this for advocacy for safe sex and political reasons.

Instagram's CEO has stated in the past that because of the Apple's App Store regulations, every app needs an age rating, if an app contains nudity in this case a woman's nipples, it has to be rated 17+, the CEO would prefer Instagram remain at its current rating of 12+, to attract a younger audience. - The CEO stating this ensures that we as a collective still see a woman's  breasts as objects and not for it's biological function. The statement insinuates a woman's nipples wont be suitable for a young audience, however our films and mainstream media places overtly sexualised images of women as well as violence towards women and the female body.
Youtube's policy allows nipples to be shown in any content, however, will not allow sexually explicit material in content in which a woman's nipples are exposed.
