Jean Luc Godard Refference

For Aleatory I used two Godard films as my main influence, i used scenes from his film and used my context of censorship to create a series of moving images. The main film was A woman is a woman. This film included a versatile series of scenes which included nudity. This allowed me to use the windows error screen to cover up the woman breasts and back. I think i decided to use this film due to its documentary realism. The direct eye contact made by the actors first hand narration allowed me to create my aesthetic for my final piece. More specifically the scene i choose to include in my final piece involved a lot of cut away scenes from one scene to another. There was also a lot of hand held camera work which created flow within the clips.

Watching the film allowed me to criticise it personally and for me the film offers a fresh perspective of femininity due to its versatile female characters, the films new wave influence incorporated femininity as being powerful and fearless. As being a well known part of the french new wave, the film helps the viewers understand my final outcome and contextualise it using cultural knowledge and conceptual awareness. The imagery also speaks for itself, the women and their nudity are explicitly shown, even if the viewers are unaware of the original content they are instantly aware of the intent of my final outcome. this was important for me as i needed my work to be visually communicative.
