Sound Workshop - implementing experimental audio in my work.
After coming back from a break from college I was introduced to a sound workshop. This worked to my advantage as my project as gradually evolved into becoming more open to experimental audio. This workshop allowed me to learn about the voltage of sound and the capacity it carries as well as the technical aspects behind recording sound.
The main outcome i brought to my work was the time sample rate and BIT depth. When shooting or editing in 24 frame rate it must be accompanied with 48 KHZ, this is so that the audio and the visual match up and play in accordance to each other. KHZ is a sampling frequency. A 48 KHZ is used when capturing any kind of audio covering a range of 20 - 20,000 the audio waveforms are typically sampled at 44 , 48, 88, or 96 KHZ.
To finalse the workshop allowed me to place more importance for how i capture and treat audio in my work, this was specially useful when recording some interviews for my project to gain a diverse insight into girlhood and how women felt about the representation of women in the media. I think sound is an intriguing element in film a sit can create mood and atmosphere for the viewer. The lack of it can also have a great impact on the work when accompanied together. I think the lack of sound is intriguing as i can use t to engage the viewer more and bring more focus on to a particular imagery. One reference i looked at closely throughout this year has been Tal Rosner, his use of audio in his pieces perfectly assists the visual and the imagery almost becomes s a physical representation of the sound. the change in tone and pitch are carefully combined with the changes in the imagery and he has successfully achieved this through experimenting with split screen and contrast of the moving image.
To finalise, this workshop has allowed me to explore more into sound and the use of it in my final outcome. Even though I have experimented with audio in the pats this workshop gave me an insight into the technical elements, which i believe will be useful when editing and sampling my audio. i think i will be using audio in my work subtlety, using it where it matter so that i create a discourse between the sound and visuals. I think the minimal use o fit will be more impactful for the viewer as well as giving more importance to the visuals.
