The Ghost Of Primida
The film follows the band Efterklang stays in an old Russian mining town to find inspiration for their album created by Andreas Koefoed. The audiences follows the group navigating the abandoned town in search of audio samples for their album, while the narrator, former Piramida citizen Alexander, takes us back to a bygone era, when Piramida flourished and the immigrant Russian miners and their families lived in a Soviet parallel society far from the brutal reality of their homeland. The film follows the poetic mode of documentary filmmaking as well a observational due to the voice of god narration by Alexander. The narrative structure to an extend follows a linear form however the space of time is suspended as Koefoed as implemented old archived footage to showcase the immigration of Russian citizens into the town during the Soviet era. I was influenced by their style of filming as the present narrative often intersectioned with another form of narrative, for instance the use of implementing their music video and finalised song in the intermission of the making process was used successfully to evoke an emotion within me as a viewer. The use of the archived footage influenced me heavily when constructing a final outcome for myself, the clips used ranged from years and used extensive research to back it up with. This integration of the time periods added a sense of paradoxical effect as the audiences were transported between time in history. I will be using this format of storytelling within my final outcome as the integration of archived footage aligns with my chosen theme and context for instance the audio interviews I have attained form my subjects counterpointed with visually which I hope to evoke an emotion of relatability within the viewers.
