Experimenting with super 8 film.
During this workshop I worked on super 8 film, the experimentation included using materials such as ink, needles and crafting knifes to create spontaneous but structured patterns on to the film. When finalised all of the film reels were linked together and projected through a 8 mm projector on to the screen. This form of film making I found was very experimental and thus quite refreshing, even though it was an old fashioned film format the uniques ways of creating imagery and moving images were very current with a contemporary feel. I found this work shop to be very useful fro my future projects but also my current documentary projects as it has influenced me heavily to create moving imagery through the use of 16mm still films and using a projector to create my documentary narrative.
The screen shot below is from Caroline Leaf's animated short which has been etched directly onto tinted 70 mm film. Caroline Leaf has used coloured film which has been directly exposed to direct sunlight and etched of them using multiple framing and layering and have achieved this animated short through the use of still images.
