OUT OF THE ORDINARY EVALUATION

EVALUATION.
believe I have successfully solved the brief by portraying the theme of Out of the Ordinary through a range of animated digital illustrations, with this project I have used my creative initiative to solve the theme through my own stylistic choices and expanding my techniques by not constraining myself within the comfort zone. Unlike the previous project this area offered me similarity in terms of the form of media used the overall the approach towards the project, this allowed me to fully experiment with the materials and workshops that were provided to create a final body of that included a diverse range of animated illustrations that truly captured my interpretation of Out of the Ordinary. I initially interpreted out of the ordinary as elements we see in our daily life's which we may dismiss but the features they hold become critical to our functions, with this concept I wanted to capture objects, surroundings or atmospheres that may seem simplistic at first but hold a great deal of interior functionality. Moving forward with this concept allowed me to observe and acknowledge my surroundings as well as visualising the atmosphere of my final outcome. However, the interpretation evolved along with the project itself as I became more intuitive to my environments and examined ways in which I could explore the brief without stating the obvious and this directed me to think of ways in which I could fully engage the viewer in my work and this was achieved through assimilating them with the inclusion of moving digital illustrations and audio. It was important for me to juxtapose the audio with the visuals as it extends the expectation for the viewer and thus showing a greater exploration of the brief.
I was able to successful show this transition and progression in my work through my analytical annotations and integration of my chosen references. Within my final outcome I have shown a clear visual link between my references and their influences through the incorporation of techniques, compositing and stylistic choices.  I have successfully integrated Hilla and Berd Becher in my work and this can be seen through the visual connection with the presence of the industrial, structural element of the still animation. The integration of simplistic black and white imagery has been implemented as a visual reminder and is prominent in the final outcome. Integrating the Bechers into my work has allowed for the expansive use of digital illustrations, colour and audio as the viewer never experiences any distractions from the background images. Establishing the Becher's influence successfully guaranteed security within my work as I was able to proceed with incorporating the remaining references and all of them offered a lot of capacity towards the final progression. Both Idris Khan and Hara Kasiki reuse old photographs/materials to add extra depth to their work and I found this technique very useful as it allowed me to include multiple dimensions within my work and forced me to use my resources to approach the image differently each time. Katsiki's influence is prevalent in my work especially in the final outcome with the incorporation of digital illustrations and her techniques helped me to create some extraordinary pieces of work. Hara Katski as a reference allowed me to refrain from the mundane and pushed myself to create original patterns and illustrations each time and bring her influence in created a huge shift in my work. The addition of movement with the still films helped to contextualise the solving of the brief. I was able to fully present the element of extraordinary through the implementation of Tal Rosner as a referenceRosner's use of conflicting audio and use of juxtaposing sounds gave me space to improve and further develop my digital illustrations.  Hence resulting in moving illustration which truly captured the theme of out of the ordinary by manipulating the viewers accustomed views with the use of alternative and unconventional methods of digital illustration.
To finalise, the workshops which included, stop motion animation, adobe animate and analogue work impacted my work immensely throughout and I have used very techniques I learnt to expand my knowledge of the subject and adhered towards my chosen format. As an overall body of work, I have produced a diverse range of work spanning from moving digital illustrations to stop motion animation and I have taken the constructive criticism from my previous project to diversify my final outcomes and experiment within my comfort zone to further develop the brief and theme give. This I believe I have done in this project which may be due to my familiarity with photography and film making but I'm glad the final product depicts out of the ordinary with originality and variety
